Who We Are

Educational Philosophy and Curriculum

Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy exists to serve the spiritual, intellectual, physical, social, emotional, technological, and creative needs of your child. Our goal is to prepare our students for the future, while fostering a safe but challenging faith-filled environment of educational excellence. Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy is fully accredited by the state of Illinois and by North Central Accreditation. The school offers your family an excellent opportunity to experience Christian education in action, as well as the finest education experienced at the elementary level.

The curriculum of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy is based on the Illinois Learning Standards. The curriculum is presented in such a way that our attainable goal is to ensure that each of our students achieve academic growth and success. As a Catholic school, our program is driven by the spirit of mutual respect and concern for each individual.

Our Lady of Grace offers the following subjects: Religion, Reading/Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Handwriting (K-3), Music, and Physical Education. Technology is integrated into the classroom with computer and internet access in both the classroom and in a lab setting. The school has four SMART boards for classroom use at the present time. Our goal is to have a SMART board in every classroom by 2012.

Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy believes that educating your child is a team effort. Communication between school and home is encouraged and considered vital to academic success for each child. Your child’s teacher will be in contact with you on a regular basis and you are invited to always feel free to contact your child’s teacher at any time. Working together ensure your child will do better.

Measuring Success-One Student at a Time

Today’s society is focused on teaching children to test well in light of the NCLB. Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy cautions those who would place too much emphasis on standardized testing. We participate in the Iowa Test of Basic Skills each September as only one way to measure our students’ success (Results can be found within the Profile).

At Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy, we are more concerned about the individual progress of each child. The size of our student body allows our teachers to individualize instruction around the strengths and challenges that our students face. Our goal is to take each student to the next level of learning.

One of the best measures of an elementary school is how its students perform in high school. Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy continually receives positive comments from local high schools on how well their students are prepared and are performing. We are committed to the success of your child not only at the elementary level, but at the educational levels that follow.
